Who We Are
Kumi Masunaga is the founding director of Drum Jam. She is also the leading facilitator, delivering a wealth of experience and boundless enthusiasm to each programme.
Kumi is a native of Japan and has been based in Hong Kong since 1990. She is a professional percussionist, hand-drum tutor, HealthRhythms® trained facilitator as well as Remo International drum facilitator and its endorser.
Motivated by a passion for making people happy through rhythm and a faith in the power of drumming, Kumi has been leading drum circles in Hong Kong, China and throughout the region for over ten years.
As a percussionist she recognizes the extraordinary power of the drum as a healing, unifying and motivational tool, which can benefit many people from young to old, from corporate to special needs, cancer patients and the elderly.
Inspired by her achievements, RTHK made a documentary about Kumi and her travels to Africa with her students. The programme received a Silver Award in the TV documentary category at the Chicago International Film Festival in 2003.
Kumi performs as a solo artist, as well as with a group of African and European artists. In 2008, she was invited to Yamaha drum circle facilitation training camp and trained over a hundred of enthusiasts in Japan.

During the programme, facilitators empower the group by building on the small successes, showcasing the strengths, and motivating the team to take full control of their musical journey.
